With this painting, I worked against my anger and sadness, after I had seen a TV report about the modern lion hunt in South Africa. They said: “In breeding farms, operated under the cover of species protection, the big cats are pampered until they are 3 years old. Then they are sold (legally justified) to the famous “Canned Hunting” farms, where “tourist hunters” treat themselves to this “shot on a silver platter”. For the animals there is no chance, no mercy, no pity from the people!

I am thinking of the famous quotation attributed to Leonardo da Vinci: “Society will only be civilised when the crime against an animal is punished in the same way as the crime against a man“.
