For this exhibition the photo artist Giorgio Zambelli and I “mirrored” our artworks on the subject “seating areas”.
The imaging of women in connection with chairs is not new in art; one need only think of Picasso’s “Nude in an Armchair”, a painting that caused a stir even in 2012. The combination of a woman and a chair leads to the question what role the seat plays for the respective woman. Is it a throne on which the queen resides or is it the chair that the waitress stacks on the table at curfew? The context influences our perception of the identity of this woman.
Giorgio and I give this subject a special touch here by showing the same motif from the perspective of the photographer and the painter. It is up to the viewer (you) to decide whether the changed mode of representation changes the message in general – perhaps even turns it into the opposite.
